Little Italy

My parents decided last minute to come visit me! It's always nice for a piece of home to come and see me. My mom's birthday was yesterday so when they got here we decided to go to a nice dinner. San Diego has such a diverse assortment of eateries so sometimes it's difficult to choose! I decided after tonight I would try and post about the different places to eat for the blog in case anyone wants some recommendations if they visit San Diego!

As you well know, I try to eat healthy most of the time. However, I love to indulge on special occasions!... and what's a more special occasion than my mother's birthday?! Because they flew in late and were staying near the airport, we chose to eat in Little Italy, 10 minutes from the San Diego airport.

It's about 2-3 blocks of delicious Italian Food. We went to Mimmo's, which is reasonable priced. I didn't take a lot of photos because I didn't think about writing a post about it.

My dad ordered a bottle off Chianti for the table because my mom's a red wine gal! Although I am not a wine connoisseur, so take this how you want, the wine was very good! I ordered penne pasta with creamy pesto and grilled chicken and it was the best pasta I've ever had! (no exaggeration).

We also had the  risotto, caprese, and calamari appetizers and they were also a huge hit with the table. The risotto was fried into three tennis ball sized balls that were enough for four people. The calamari breading was mixed with lemon zest that was the perfect amount of tang.
(really regretting not taking photos of the food because I love a good food photo)

We got dessert as well, a cheesecake, tiramisu, and vanilla ice cream (my dad's go to dessert). All delicious. I had the cheesecake and split it with my boyfriend. The cheesecake was topped with a caramel drizzle and whipped cream, a delicious combination.

It was a great time and great meal! I love having my parents in town even if that means I have to indulge a little!

xx- Juliana
